Day 10, 11, 12 Kona, Hawaii to Kihei, Maui

Tuesday was a travel day. Our flight was at 1:07pm so we had some time before the flight. Everything went really smoothly, again. Alamo were super fast. We were ushered onto the shuttle bus and whisked away to the Hawaiian Airlines checkin. Through security and on to our 25minute flight to Maui. The flight seemed like 10 minutes. Hardly time to buckle in before we were coming in to land. The Kahului airport at Maui is massive compared to Kona. It’s more live YVR’s domestic terminal than the tiny open air airport in Kona. We located our bags and went off in search of Alamo. A full length Alamo shuttle bus was just pulling away as we got to the back of a long line up but another bus arrived just moments later. We didn’t get on that one but the next bus was right behind that. A steady stream up people and a steady supply of buses. These guys are on their game! The Costco is just a couple of blocks away so we picked up $314 of groceries including another large chunk of sushi grade tuna, a tray of tuna sashimi, steak, chicken etc. The only trouble was our trunk was full of luggage so we had to cram the groceries between the kids on the back seat.

Day 11 - Jen and I got up early, grabbed a coffee and went for a walk up the beach. After breakfast we grabbed our boogie boards and headed over to Kama’ole Beach II, right across from our Condo. The surf was great and the kids boogy boarded their buts off. After a couple of hours the wind picked up and the airborne sand forced us to flee to the shelter of the pool. We were getting sand blasted! That evening I cooked up the chunk of tuna. I would like to photograph it but it gets snapped up too quick!

Day 12 - Jemma now has an ear infection. Too much seawater and sand in the old ear-hole.We spend a quiet morning at the pool and Jemma kept out of the water. We have been putting polysporin drops in her ear but it does not seem to be helping. Time to check in with our travel insurance provider. We drove up the coast to Lahaina and Napili Cove. The beach is really steep and the waves go all the way up. We hung out for about an hour and at one point the waves built right up to about 10ft tall and soaked Jenny who couldn’t get up quickly enough. And we were at the top of the beach! We will go back and get some photos. We went back down the coast in to Lahaina and saw the Ulalena show at the Lahaina theatre. It was really good.

At Napili, you have to go around the cove from the big waves- you walk through the condos to get to the cove- that is where the turtles are- the main beach is to rough!
Turn left on the Napili Park Way. Here you have a small shopping center on the left -Drive around 1 mile towards the bay. Beware there is no public parking so as soon as you
(a little hard to find since there is not much space for public parking) We parked our car on a side dirt road and walked the narrow passage way to the shoreline access.

You have to be a little careful the beach has a steep fall into the water but that also is the fun part.
On the extreme left where the rocks are there are amazing coral and sea life which is also in the shallow. Kids enjoy this a lot.

For turtles if you keep walking towards the rocky side you will see a small dirt trail. Its very small and you will see people coming in and out of it. This trail passes by the private property of the Napili shores. When you reach the end you will there is a cove formed with a sign about the turtles found here.
-If you go early in the morning say like you will find loads of turtles here. They all come in to eat the algae. you can get into the water by a small access at the end of the trail and swim to the middle of the pond to be surrounded by almost turtles :)
