Day 56 - Ingonish to Lousibourg, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia 195km

We set off at 9:00am and drove about 150km south, off the Cabot Trail to Glace Bay and the Miner’s Museum. Mining was the main source of work and industry in the early 1900 to 1960s. Unfortunately, the miners got a raw deal as the owners treated them like slaves making sure they bought all their goods from the company store, lived in company owned houses and had a company police force.
We went down into a section of the mine. Thankfully this did not go under the ocean as did the original mine which went three and a half miles under the ocean and down as deep as 2700ft.
We then drove a little further south to the Mira provincial park just outside the fort of Louisbourg which we will tour tomorrow.
While taking a slight detour through Sydney Mines (we thought the mine would be here - silly us) we accidentally drove by the Newfoundland ferries. There are two options; the six hour ferry and a 12hr drive at the other end to St Johns or the 16hr ferry and a 4hr drive to St Johns. Hmm.. I think I would rather let the ferry do the work. Anyway, we would love to just hop on and step foot on the only province not seen this trip but we don’t have the time or money. Donations accepted at .... Just kidding!

How much longer? The shaft was only 5ft high.
Our tour guide was the perfect hight. He didn't need to bend over!
