Day 57 - Louisbourg, Nova Scotia

OUR EASTERNMOST POINT!
The only camp sites available at the Provincial park are non-serviced so we have no power or water. I guess it’s not a great time to find out that our fridge no longer seems to work on propane and the pump that gives us water out of the tank doesn’t seem to work either. Oh well! I guess the trailer is trying to tell us something. It needs an owner that knows how to fix things. I will phone the RV guy as soon as we get back.
Louisbourg Fort is one of the oldest forts in Canada and was held by the French between 1730 and about 1765 till the Brits took it from them. This was a very tricky time period as the French, British and Americans were all battling for control over this new continent. It didn’t help that a bunch of other wars were being fought in Europe at the same time and the French concentrated most of their efforts there which caused them to lose control of this part of Canada.
The Fort has been rebuilt and is filled with artisans that explain the history of fort and what they did on a day to day basis. It sounds like the french soldiers had a tough old time with poor living conditions, captains that took 90% of their wages for food, lodging and uniforms and when the brits did attack they found that they were not very well trained either.
Today is a very significant day on our trip. We have reached our Easternmost point. 57 days in and about 14 days to go! Crikey!
We have logged a total 8,646km and Google Maps tells us we have 6,440km (67hrs) back to home.
The campsite had lots of fun activities this afternoon. Most involving water.
The Fisherman's house, Fort Louisbourg, Cape Breton, NS
The guard. He wasn't so friendly at first!
The Fort at Louisbourg, Cape Breton
Our Easternmost point!
Fish and chips at the chip van - very English!
