Quebec City, just called ‘Quebec’ while in Quebec is about an hour and a half drive North up the St Lawrence from Trois Rivieres. We hopped into our yellow school bus at 8:30 and were off. The second week of the Festival D’etes (summer festival) just finished this weekend with performances by Sarah McLaughlin, Lionel Richie and Bon Jovi.
There were hundreds of activities and it would have been a lot of fun to participate. However, given the choice of Trois Rivieres or the festival I would still choose Trois Rivieres. We could have learned ‘some’ french by hanging out at the festival but nothing compared to the structured education at the school. Jenny said that she is learning lots too.

The old city of Quebec is much like a European medieval town with a thick wall surrounding the city and huge cannons pointing out.
The city has an interesting history of the first French settlers in the mid 1600s, wars with the British on and off into the 1700 and finally control by the British later that century. There was not much interest in ‘ New France’ at first and many of the first settlers died of starvation or exposure to the extreme cold in the winters. However, when explorers started trading metal pots, pans, knives and guns with the natives for beaver furs a new industry exploded. The Northwest Trading Company, later to become the Hudson's Bay Company came into being.
We were given a tour of the old city and the legislature (very similar in size and opulence as the Federal Legislature in Ottawa) and then we had free time to wander around on our own till our dinner reservations at 6:30.
It was hot and sticky and the old city is built on a big hill so there was lots of stairs and slopes. Ryan was close to burn out when we found a small water park where we could cool off.
We arrived home at 10:00pm and literally fell into our beds. It’s Sunday morning now and we have another tour at 10:00am La Mauricie National Park. This is a park with forests, lakes and waterfalls. More about that tomorrow.
Tomorrow morning the trailer goes in for welding repairs...
