Day 59 - Peggy’s Cove and Halifax, Nova Scotia

Unfortunately, Jenny had a rough night. I woke up not realizing that Jenny had spent half the night in the washroom. In fact, I got up at 6:30am to do some work and when no one had stirred at 8:00am I had to poke and prod everyone awake. It was still quite foggy and when i realized that Jen wasn’t her chirpy self we took our time driving out to Peggy’s Cove. Again, Jenny wasn’t on her usual top navigating form and we went 1/2hr in the wrong direction before realizing. Oh well!
We stopped in at the Swiss Air crash memorial just outside Peggy’s Cove. 229 men, women and children died as a result of an electrical fire back in September 2008. We spoke to one of the shop keeper’s in Peggy’s Cove who told us the story. There was smoke in the cockpit of the flight that left new York for Geneva. The flight redirected to Halifax, went out to sea to dump fuel and crashed about 13 miles out. Much of the wreckage washed up in Peggy’s Cove which is the reason for the memorial there.

The famous lighthouse

Peggy’s Cove is not just the site of one of the most photographed buildings in Canada it is a cute little fishing village.
We went back in to Halifax in the afternoon and finally met up with Wayne from the Trane Halifax office who had given us such great info about Cape Breton. Thanks Wayne!
This is it! Tomorrow we point the van west and get started on the return leg. it doesn’t help that just 3hrs away is a place we ‘MUST SEE’. The Hopewell Rocks in the Bay of Fundy. We will see! Personally I wnat to dive 30hrs straight to try and put a dent in this drive. I need my copilot fit and healthy before I can consider anything like that.

END OF PART THREE

Well, it's Jenny here and I am happy to report that I am on the mend. I get knocked down but I get up again. I love the picture of me lying on the rock at Peggy's Cove. I look like a giant when really I am a willowy little thing!
